FINNISH NET ADDICTS WIN MILITARY DISCHARGE

The Defense Forces of Finland report they are sending some drafteeshome because they can't bear to be away from their PCs, video games andthe World Wide Web. "They play (Internet) games all night and don't havefriends or hobbies. When they get into the army, it's a shock to them,"Jyrki Kivelae, head of the conscription division at the Finnish defensestaff, told Agence France Press. "It's really a shock to them, they arephysically too weak to do the service, and mentally unprepared to dealwith people directly and not through the Internet," he said. The DefenseForces reportedly relieved 9 percent of conscripts for medical reasonslast year, although a breakdown for Internet addition wasn't available.
